McCabe University Helps Train Future Software Professionals
Program Bridges Classroom and Real World of Software Quality and Testing

CRANSTON, RI - McCabe Software is reporting on the continued success of its McCabe University Program.  The program provides educational institutions with full commercial versions of McCabe Software’s leading software quality management solutions at no cost.

One of the many institutions that has benefited from the program is Colorado State University (CSU).  A participant since 2008, CSU has found the program to be very beneficial to their students. CSU utilizes McCabe’s flagship software quality management solution, McCabe IQ Enterprise Edition, for source code analysis and enterprise reporting.  McCabe IQ takes a unique path-oriented approach to uncover software security vulnerability, complexity, and testedness, enabling a more stringent analysis of source code to mitigate risk.

“McCabe IQ is integrated into my teaching as a critical element of quality assurance,” says CSU’s Professor Charles Butler from the Department of Computer Information Systems. “McCabe’s family of metrics is an established set of software measurements and our students enjoy the intellectual discussions surrounding them. At times, applications from local organizations are obtained and then analyzed with McCabe IQ providing students with hands-on experience.  This is a key part of bridging the classroom and the real world.”

Rivier College of Nashua, NH also utilizes McCabe IQ in the classroom and for student projects.  In his upcoming presentation to the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges, Professor of Computer Science, Dr. Vladimir Riabov, will discuss the importance of instilling quality standards and quality measurement techniques into the software development process.  Dr. Riabov notes the challenge that instructors face in providing students with state of the art software engineering tools and testing techniques in his paper, “Methodologies and Tools for the Software Quality Assurance Course”.
